Freiberg

The reason for our honeymoon to Europe was so we could come here, to Freiberg, Germany.

This temple is a miracle in and of itself.  It was dedicated in 1985, and was located on the other side of the Iron Curtain.  Because of that, the government didn't want them to bring any papers over from West Germany, and as a result, President Monson crossed the border into East Germany then wrote down the whole temple ceremony from memory in order for them to have it there.

Freiberg isn't a very big city, and the temple really isn't visible until you start driving up the street that it's on. This temple has a very special spirit to it, and I think it may be due to all the sacrifices that members have to make to get there.  Talking with members, it costs them a month's salary or more to be able to go to the temple, and they stay for a week.  That makes me a lot more grateful for the fact that there are so many temples nearby and that I can enjoy the blessings of the temple as often as I choose to go.
